Friends in Christ Weekly Message

He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
Isaiah 2:4 (NIV*)
This is what Isaiah says will happen when all nations listen to the Lord. Don't we wish for that day to come soon!
What this passage points out is that nations don't have to use war to settle their differences. If they will turn to the Lord, God will settle their disputes. They will have no use for their implements of war, and could devote their resources to the needs of people.
What is our role? The same as that of the nations - to listen to the Lord and follow what we hear. As we become more faithful, and as more and more citizens of nations become faithful, the day when the nations will be faithful will come closer. And then our sons and daughters, our mothers and fathers, our husbands and wives, will no longer die in war.
In 1651, George Fox told those who would make him a captain in Cromwell's army that he "...lived in the virtue of that life and power which took away the occasions for wars." Let us each seek to live in that life and power.
Bill Samuel
