Friends in Christ Weekly Message
January 19, 2002
I patiently waited, Lord, for you to hear my prayer.
You listened and pulled me
from a lonely pit full of mud and mire.
You let me stand on a rock with my feet firm,
and you gave me a new song, a song of praise to you.
Many will see this,
and they will honor and trust you, the Lord God.
Psalm 40:1-3 (CEV*)
When we need help, what do we do? Do we pray to the Lord? Do we wait patiently for the answer to our prayer?
The psalmist tells us that, if we are patient in waiting for the Lord, the Lord will answer. God will give us a firm foundation on which to set our feet. There's no promise that life will be a bed of roses, but we don't have to face life's challenges from a lonely pit.
If we trust in the Lord, and wait patiently and confidently for the answers to our prayers, the psalmist tells us of something else we will receive. We will be given a new song, one of praise for the God who listens to us.
If we live this way, it is not only us who will benefit. We will be examples to others. Seeing what God has done in our lives, they will come to honor and trust the Lord.
Trust in the Lord. Pray with confidence and patience. Let God put a new song in your heart. Be a witness for the Lord by the way you live.
