Friends in Christ Weekly Message
September 21, 2002
Meanwhile, live in such a way that you are a credit to the Message of Christ. Let nothing in your conduct hang on whether I come or not. Your conduct must be the same whether I show up to see things for myself or hear of it from a distance. Stand united, singular in vision, contending for people's trust in the Message, the good news,
Philippians 1:27 (Message*)
The true test of the faith of Christians is the way we live our lives. Does the way we live show that we have been transformed by the love of Christ?
It's not a matter of being on good behavior when someone special is around. It's the way we live our lives day in and day out. Is our conduct beyond reproach no matter who is seeing it? Does our behavior exemplify the way of Christ when we're among people we don't know in rush hour traffic or a crowded store just as much as when we're with the people with whom we worship? Do we act the same way at our jobs as we do when we gather in our faith community?
As a faith community, are we united as Christ prayed we would be? Do we share a common vision, a vision that is really God's vision not something from our own wills? Do we reach out to others, sharing the Good News that has transformed our lives? Do they see the Good News in how we are towards them, not just hear it in words?
Dear friends, may we let our lives be fully transformed by the love and grace of God. May we be witnesses, examples, of this transforming power to all around us.
Bill Samuel
