Friends in Christ Weekly Message
February 15, 2003

Yesterday was Valentine's Day, and it got me thinking about love. Having been happily married for more than 25 years, I think I know something about human love. I believe there are close parallels between our human love relationships and a love relationship with God.

When you love someone, how does that express itself? You spend time with them. You pay attention to what they like. You open yourself up to them and become vulnerable. You tell them you love them and you show it in your actions. You show appreciation for them. You are willing to do difficult things and take risks for your loved one.

Do you really love God? Do you devote much time to being with God in prayer, meditation, worship, etc.? Do you pay attention to God's desires? Do you open yourself up to God and become vulnerable with Him? Do you express love for God in prayer and the way you live your life? Do you shower God with your praise? Are you willing to do difficult things and take risks for God?

We each need to ask ourselves these questions. We say we love God, but do our lives demonstrate that love? Let us reflect on how much God loves us, and how much we show our love for God.

Have a blessed week. May your love relationship with God be ever on your heart and mind.
