Friends in Christ Weekly Message

The men pulled their boats up on the shore. Then they left everything and went with Jesus.
Luke 5:11 (CEV*)
This account of Peter, James and John leaving everything and following Jesus is similar to the stories of other of Jesus' disciples. They left their old lives and entered into a new life with Jesus.
In our relatively sophisticated times, we often want to know everything about what it means to follow Christ before we make a decision to do it. This isn't what the disciples of two millennia ago did. It is very clear from the Gospel records that there was an awful lot they didn't know about Jesus and what it meant to follow him. But they could sense that here was someone special and unique; one who merited being trusted fully and followed.
We need to put aside the illusion that we can understand it all. Instead, we need to humbly sit at the Master's feet. We need to put aside all the questions and distractions of the world, and simply seek to follow Christ. We won't know just what that will mean for us, but we need to have confidence that this new life in Christ is the true life God made for us. Christ will let us know what we need to know when we need to know it, and this should be enough for us. Praise God!
