Friends in Christ Weekly Message
June 12, 2004
Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be -
you get a fresh start,
your slate's wiped clean.
Count yourself lucky -
God holds nothing against you
and you're holding nothing back from him.
Psalm 32:1-2 (Message*)
The concept of our slate of sins being wiped clean is not only a New Testament one. It is found in several places in the Old Testament, including this psalm.
God loves us so much that He is willing to forgive us for all the sins we have committed. It doesn't matter how great or little the sins. God wants to free us from it all. They aren't suspended or held in abeyance. The slate is completely wiped clean, as if we had never committed them.
This is an offer made to each of us, but we do need to cooperate with God and accept the offer. As this translation of this psalm puts it, we need to hold nothing back from God. Other translations put this in terms of confessing out sins. If we are honest and open to God, and freely confess to Him our sins, He is faithful and will wipe our slate clean.
Dear friends, God's promises are true. Confess your sins to God freely, acknowledging that you have fallen short, and God will wipe your slate clean. Praise God!
