Friends in Christ Weekly Message
September 4, 2004
God, investigate my life;
get all the facts firsthand.
I'm an open book to you;
even from a distance, you know what I'm thinking.
You know when I leave and when I get back;
I'm never out of your sight.
You know everything I'm going to say
before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you're there,
then up ahead and you're there, too -
your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful -
I can't take it all in!
Psalm 139:1-6 (Message*)
I resonate with the psalmist. I, too, find God's presence too much, too wonderful - I can't take it all in!
Each of us is an open book to God. We can not hide anything from Him. We should laugh at our pathetic efforts to hide things from God, but go beyond laughing to transformation.
Sometimes we find God's awesome knowledge of us frightening. But the psalmist regards God's ever-present nature as reassuring. When we experience the true wonder of God's amazing love for us, His presence is indeed reassuring, even though we know there are things about us that can not be pleasing to Him.
Dear friends, no matter what your situation in life, rest in God's reassuring presence. No matter what you may face, God will never abandon you and will never cease loving you.
