Friends in Christ Weekly Message
January 15, 2005
Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God,
turn your backs on the world's "sure thing,"
ignore what the world worships;
The world's a huge stockpile
of God-wonders and God-thoughts.
Nothing and no one
comes close to you!
I start talking about you, telling what I know,
and quickly run out of words.
Neither numbers nor words
account for you.
Doing something for you, bringing something to you -
that's not what you're after.
Being religious, acting pious -
that's not what you're asking for.
You've opened my ears
so I can listen.
So I answered, "I'm coming.
I read in your letter what you wrote about me,
And I'm coming to the party
you're throwing for me."
That's when God's Word entered my life,
became part of my very being.
Psalm 40:4-8 (Message*)
Are we going to trust in what the world tells us we need - material prosperity, worldly power, etc.? Or are we going to put our trust in God, and make our choices based on His Living Word in our life?
Do we agree with David that "Nothing and no one comes close to you [God]?" Do we find God's works so awesome and wonderful that they are beyond our power to capture them in words?
Do we understand that it is not looking religious - doing all the right pious things - that God is asking of us? Do we understand that rather we are invited to have God's Living Word become part of our very being? Dear friends, if you have not yet accepted this invitation, don't delay. Enter into the wonderful world of God's presence.
