Friends in Christ Weekly Message
March 5, 2005
You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You're out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true - these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.
Don't waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are. It's a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see. Rip the cover off those frauds and see how attractive they look in the light of Christ.
Wake up from your sleep,
Climb out of your coffins;
Christ will show you the light!
Ephesians 5:8-14 (Message*)
The light of Christ is bright and makes our way plain. If we are committed to Christ, we do what pleases Christ - "the good, the right, the true" - and we do it openly. If our gaze is truly fixed on Christ, we will not stumble.
It is easy to waste our precious time doing useless busywork and the "barren pursuits of darkness." The light of Christ exposes our wastefulness and sinfulness. In His light, we can see them as they really are, and if we are truly devoted to Christ, we will turn from them and eliminate them from our lives.
Each of us needs to prayerfully examine our lives. Am I following the bright light of Christ, and doing what pleases Him? Have I put aside the busywork and dark pursuits which Christ's light has exposed in my life? Have I truly woken up from spiritual death and let Christ's light guide me in all things?
