Friends in Christ Weekly Message
May 28, 2005

     So he told Noah:
Cruelty and violence have spread everywhere. Now I'm going to destroy the whole earth and all its people.
Genesis 6:13 (CEV*)

God brings wars to an end all over the world.
He breaks the arrows,
shatters the spears, and burns the shields.

Psalm 46:9 (CEV*)

God abhors violence. The scriptures indicate God was so disturbed by the pervasive spread of violence throughout human society in the time of Noah that he found it necessary to wipe it out and start all over again with the one family who didn't follow the path of violence.

The passage from the Psalm also shows God's heart. He would bring wars to an end and destroy the instruments of violence if we would only turn our ways toward Him. Similar passages are in the books of the prophets.

Are our hearts free of the stain of violence? Do we stand apart from the values of a world which is full of wars and preparations for wars? Have we aligned our lives with God's fervent desire to bring wars to an end and destroy the implements of violence?
