Take away my foolish desires,
and let me find life by walking with you.
Psalm 119:37 (CEV*)
We so often seek the "good life" through securing material resources for ourselves, and buying things we think will bring us happiness. Our desires for all these things of the material world are regarded as foolish in scripture. We can't find the true life we need through riches and nice material things.
We find this true life by walking with God. If we stick with this divine companion, we don't know what we will have materially. Things won't necessarily go so well for us by the standards of the world. But living this way will give us the kind of peace and spiritual security that nothing in this world can give.
We may understand this at some level, but still the false promises of the advertisers and those who advise on how to do well on the world's terms can lure us away. I pray that each of us remains steadfastly beside our Lord, and resists the temptations of this world which can not offer what God offers us. And may we be spiritual companions to one another, helping each other to be faithful and live the lives our loving God would have us live.
