Friends in Christ Weekly Message
March 25, 2006
This is the crisis we're in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won't come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.
John 3:19-21 (Message*)
God's light has streamed into the world, and continues to stream into the world. It is the most wonderful thing there is, and provides the only real hope for a fulfilled life.
Yet John noted people ran for the darkness. It's easy to see that as other, identifiably evil, people. But we need to look at ourselves. I know the wonder of the light, but still I often do not stand in it.
If we are working and living in truth and reality - God's reality - we will welcome God's light because, John notes, we will want the work to be recognized as God's. We will not want to take the credit, knowing we could not do it without God.
Are you living in God's light, or running for the darkness?
Bill Samuel
