Always be ready! You don't know when the Son of Man will come.
Matthew 24:44 (CEV*)
The early Quakers refused to specially celebrate any of the holy days on the calendar. They were concerned with treating other days as ones which were not holy; ones in which people might not live in communion with and obedience to Christ. It is possible that one can mark special days in ways that enhance rather than diminish our recognition of God every day, but the point about living for Christ every day was certainly well taken.
Jesus calls us to live each day and each moment ready to experience His presence. This passage appears to be speaking with relation to a future time generally referred to as the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. But I think in addition to being ready for the ultimate fulfillment of God's Kingdom on earth, I wonder if it doesn't also speak to being ready for Christ's presence in our lives in the time before that day. Are you ready?
