Friends in Christ Weekly Message
March 1, 2008

The man replied, “This is amazing! You claim to know nothing about him, but the fact is, he opened my eyes! It's well known that God isn't at the beck and call of sinners, but listens carefully to anyone who lives in reverence and does his will. That someone opened the eyes of a man born blind has never been heard of - ever. If this man didn't come from God, he wouldn't be able to do anything.”
John 9:30-33 (Message*)

The man here is the man who was born blind, but whom Jesus made able to see. Here he is being questioned by the Pharisees, who claim Jesus is a sinner for healing on the Sabbath. As they try to weasel out of admitting Jesus's divine power, the man speaks boldly to them.

That Jesus came from God is shown in the Gospel accounts both by the power he has to heal, and by the power of his teaching. Are we as willing as the formerly blind man to speak boldly about who Jesus is?

Bill Samuel
