Friends in Christ Weekly Message
October 25, 2008

God spoke to Moses:
Speak to the congregation of Israel. Tell them: Be holy because I, God, your God, am holy.
Leviticus 19:1-2 (Message*)

We are called to be holy, as God is holy. What does that mean?

One dictionary definition is, “Spiritually whole or sound; of unimpaired innocence and virtue; free from sinful affections; pure in heart; godly; pious; irreproachable; guiltless; acceptable to God.” I find it intriguing that holy means being spiritually whole.

We are to be wholly devoted to God, taking on God's very nature. Holiness is often seen as a set of behaviors, but its heart is in union with God. Right behavior flows from right relationship with God. We are incapable of being holy without that relationship.

How are you building and maintaining your relationship with God so that you might become spiritually whole?

Bill Samuel
