Friends in Christ Weekly Message
August 29, 2009

My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things that God wants done. You must stop doing anything immoral or evil. Instead be humble and accept the message that is planted in you to save you.
James 1:19-21 (CEV*)

How often am I quick to respond without truly listening to what another has said? It is easy to be set off by something we hear without listening to the whole message and to the heart from which it came. When we do this we put a barrier between ourselves and God, and are not able to do what God wants.

We need to learn to listen carefully, and let God help us hear the heart of another and only respond in the Spirit. It is arrogance to jump to conclusions and insist on our way. We need to humble ourselves so God can direct our ways.

Bill Samuel
