Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 7, 2009

He continued teaching. “Watch out for the religion scholars. They love to walk around in academic gowns, preening in the radiance of public flattery, basking in prominent positions, sitting at the head table at every church function. And all the time they are exploiting the weak and helpless. The longer their prayers, the worse they get. But they'll pay for it in the end.”
Mark 12:38-40 (Message*)

Jesus doesn't like people making a big show of being important people. It's not those who seek human honor and position he wants, but humble people faithfully following Him without expecting earthly reward for it.

So beware of the prominent religious leaders who love their position of influence. Find companions on the journey among those who don't seek recognition, but simply seek to be faithful day by day, hour by hour.
