Friends in Christ Weekly Message
October 9, 2010
On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus went along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men with leprosy came toward him. They stood at a distance and shouted, Jesus, Master, have pity on us!
Jesus looked at them and said, Go show yourselves to the priests.
On their way they were healed. When one of them discovered that he was healed, he came back, shouting praises to God. He bowed down at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was from the country of Samaria.
Jesus asked, Weren't ten men healed? Where are the other nine? Why was this foreigner the only one who came back to thank God? Then Jesus told the man, You may get up and go. Your faith has made you well.
Luke 17:11-19 (CEV*)
When we are blessed with something good, it is easy to just go on with life and not stop to be thankful for it. But we need to stop and realize that we are receiving grace, not usually something we have earned. That is something marvelous, and not to be taken for granted.
We need to thank God not only for the big things like sudden healings, but all the ways grace operates in our lives day to day. If we pay attention, we realize we have so much for which to be grateful. We need to live with an attitude of gratitude. It's actually a very pleasant way to live!
How often do you pause to thank God for the blessings bestowed upon you? Do you thank all those in your life who do good things for you and with you?
