Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 20, 2010

A river and its streams bring joy to the city,
which is the sacred home of God Most High.
God is in that city,
and it won't be shaken.
He will help it at dawn.

Nations rage! Kingdoms fall!
But at the voice of God the earth itself melts.
The LORD All-Powerful is with us.
The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Psalm 46:4-7 (CEV*)

We are often tempted to focus on what seems wrong in the world. Violence, greed, corruption and other evils may often seem to us to be very powerful; even in control.

The psalmist calls upon us to look beyond that to the ever-present and all-powerful God. God is a far greater power than all the forces of evil in our world. This God is with us, is our fortress, and brings us joy.

Do you despair because of all the signs of evil around us, or are you filled with hope and joy because God is with us and is our fortress?

Bill Samuel
