Friends in Christ Weekly Message
January 21, 2012
[NOTE: This message was originally published January 25, 2003.]
Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him.
God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe,
and he is the fortress where I feel secure.
God saves me and honors me.
He is that mighty rock where I find safety.
Trust God, my friends, and always tell him
each one of your concerns. God is our place of safety.
We humans are only a breath; none of us are truly great.
All of us together weigh less than a puff of air.
Don't trust in violence
or depend on dishonesty or rely on great wealth.
Psalm 62:5-10 (CEV*)
This passage highlights the key question of where we put our trust. Do our lives demonstrate that we put all our trust in God? Do we always tell Him each one of our concerns? Do we really understand that we can find true security only with God?
How we live our lives may betray that we actually put our trust elsewhere. Do we trust in violence, demonstrating a belief that might makes right? Do we try to dissemble our way out of situations, showing we trust in dishonesty? Do we focus our lives on accumulating wealth, indicating that our trust is in earthly riches?
Dear friends, let us each put our full lives before God, allowing the ways we put trust in the things of this world to be exposed to the light of Truth. Let us abandon these false sources of security, and put our trust completely in God, and His ways.
