Friends in Christ Weekly Message
May 26, 2012
[NOTE: This message was originally published June 7, 2003.]
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God.
Romans 8:26-27 (Message*)
Have you ever felt frustrated, not sure just how or what to pray? Most of us have. This passage assures us that this is OK; "it doesn't matter." So relax.
The Holy Spirit knows us better than we know ourselves. The Spirit will pray for us. Words are not important. The Spirit will keep us present before God.
Isn't it wonderful that we don't need to worry about the "right" words to pray to God? We don't need to follow any formulas, or to say any set prayers. We just need to open ourselves before God, and trust the Spirit to be present for us. We can be silent, pour out our hearts in conversational words, sigh, groan or whatever. The Spirit accepts us where we are.
Dear God, thank you for the Spirit you have provided to stay with us and pray for us. We are so grateful for your Spirit keeping us present before you. May our hearts overflow in thankfulness for the wonderful way you care for us. We are so blessed.
Bill Samuel
