Friends in Christ Weekly Message
August 18, 2012
[NOTE: This message was originally published August 16, 2003.]
Act like people with good sense and not like fools. These are evil times, so make every minute count. Don't be stupid. Instead, find out what the Lord wants you to do. Don't destroy yourself by getting drunk, but let the Spirit fill your life. When you meet together, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as you praise the Lord with all your heart. Always use the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to thank God the Father for everything.
Ephesians 5:15-20 (CEV*)
The Apostle Paul's advice to the church at Ephesus is pretty much applicable to Christians in all places and times. It is a plea to focus on Jesus Christ in our lives.
We still need to act wisely. These are still evil times. We still need to be discerning about God's will in our lives. We still need to be filled by the Holy Spirit, not by alcohol or other destructive options. We still need to sing and speak praises to God with all our hearts. We still need to do all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We need to examine out lives. Are we living in this way? If not, we need to put aside the things in our lives which are not of God and let the Spirit fill our lives so that we may live faithfully.
Dear Lord, thank you for the blessings you pour out and for your unfailing love. Search us, and teach us what we need to put aside. Fill us with your Spirit, so that we may live lives with the power to redeem the times. In Jesus' precious name I pray. Amen.
