Friends in Christ Weekly Message
January 31, 2015

     Jesus and his disciples went to the town of Capernaum. Then on the next Sabbath he went into the Jewish meeting place and started teaching. Everyone was amazed at his teaching. He taught with authority, and not like the teachers of the Law of Moses. Suddenly a man with an evil spirit in him entered the meeting place and yelled, "Jesus from Nazareth, what do you want with us? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are! You are God's Holy One."
     Jesus told the evil spirit, "Be quiet and come out of the man!" The spirit shook him. Then it gave a loud shout and left.
     Everyone was completely surprised and kept saying to each other, "What is this? It must be some new kind of powerful teaching! Even the evil spirits obey him."
Mark 1:21-27 (CEV*)

There was something about Jesus. He was not like other men. He carried an authority that was not of the worldly kind, but was evident to those who heard and saw him. This was not only in His teaching, but in His actions. He had a power that the world did not know.

This authority and power was not only when He walked the earth, but continues yet today. Inwardly, listen to His voice speak to you with authority. If you are sensitive to Him, you are also likely to notice the exercise of His power in the world. Those that allow Christ to live most fully in them will also be seen to speak and act with authority. This is not a function of formal education. Such will be found among the uneducated, like the Apostle Peter, and the educated, like the Apostle Paul. If you become sensitive to His voice and His power, you will become able to see who is speaking and acting with Christ's authority, and who is not.

Dear Friends, listen to Christ's voice inwardly. Let your eyes be opened by Christ's spirit, and see Him at work around you. Draw close to Him, and let Him live within you.
