Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 26, 2005
Every time I think of you - and I think of you often! - I thank God for your lives of free and open access to God, given by Jesus. There's no end to what has happened in you - it's beyond speech, beyond knowledge. The evidence of Christ has been clearly verified in your lives.
Just think - you don't need a thing, you've got it all! All God's gifts are right in front of you as you wait expectantly for our Master Jesus to arrive on the scene for the Finale. And not only that, but God himself is right alongside to keep you steady and on track until things are all wrapped up by Jesus. God, who got you started in this spiritual adventure, shares with us the life of his Son and our Master Jesus. He will never give up on you. Never forget that.
1 Corinthians 1:4-9 (Message*)
What a message of encouragement Paul shares with his friends in the church at Corinth! It is appropriate that we read this and see the Apostle as speaking to us, as Paul indicates earlier in the letter that it is also to "all who call out to Jesus, wherever they live." (verse 2)
Paul reminds us of the tremendous gift we've been given. He seeks to take away the temptation of faith communities to depend on things like money and skilled professional pastors by telling us we don't need a thing. God has given us all we need, and is right along side of us, and will never give up on us. If we stay centered on Jesus Christ, we will keep steady and on track no matter what is going on around us.
Are we living in the awareness that God has given us all we need? Do we have a sense of God's constant presence keeping us steady and on track? Do we encourage one another as Paul models?
