Friends in Christ Weekly Message
December 3, 2005
But God has promised us a new heaven and a new earth, where justice will rule. We are really looking forward to that!
My friends, while you are waiting, you should make certain that the Lord finds you pure, spotless, and living at peace. Don't forget that the Lord is patient because he wants people to be saved. This is also what our dear friend Paul said when he wrote you with the wisdom that God had given him.
2 Peter 3:13-15 (CEV*)
Christians have hope for a new heaven and a new earth, according to God's promises. But that does not mean it is unimportant how we live our lives now. And we are to accept that this promise may be a long time coming, because we understand God's desire that everyone have ample opportunity to accept Him.
Our knowledge of Christ should lead to our living pure and holy lives. In Christ's love and grace, and in faith in His promises, we should live at peace - both an inner peace and a state of peace with others.
Do you trust God's promises for a new heaven and a new earth? Are you patient with God's timetable for that? Are "you pure, spotless, and living at peace"?
Prayer request: Please be in prayer for the four people, of different nationalities and different religious affiliations, working with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Iraq who were kidnapped last week. Pray that their captors will feel their spirit of peace, and be moved to release them.
