Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 11, 2006

If God doesn't build the house,
     the builders only build shacks.
If God doesn't guard the city,
the night watchman might as well nap.
It's useless to rise early and go to bed late,
and work your worried fingers to the bone.
Don't you know he enjoys
giving rest to those he loves?

Psalm 127:1-2 (Message*)

We are so tempted to try to figure out what is best to do ourselves, and then work like crazy to do it. The psalmist (said to be Solomon) warns us that labors out of our own will are in vain. We wear ourselves out, and fail to achieve what we had hoped.

Only God can direct work that is truly of value. And if we align ourselves with what God has in mind, we will be able to rest in Him.

May we each learn to wait on the Lord and listen for God's guidance before setting our course. May we each join in God's plans, rather than asking Him to bless our plans.

Bill Samuel
