Friends in Christ Weekly Message
November 18, 2006

The weapons of the strong are smashed to pieces, while the weak are infused with fresh strength.
1 Samuel 2:4 (Message*)

In this world, we see many who put their trust in weapons and large armed forces. They believe that powerful means of destruction are what brings strength. We see this false faith dominating the political system in many nations, including my own, and resulting in the loss of many lives, as well as the destruction of the infrastructure of societies and of the very environment, God's creation, itself.

Hannah, from whose prayer this verse is taken, expresses a faith which is very different. She understands God as blessing those who are weak in this world's terms. She realizes that you tap into the true source of power through humble worship and prayer to the true God, not through this world's shows of strength.

Where do you place your faith? Do you trust in armies and weapons, or in the mercies of a loving God?

Bill Samuel
